Bunyip Railway History

“The Oakleigh to Bunyip section of the Gippsland railway line was completed on the 8th October, 1877, and the final line, Bunyip to Moe, on 1st March, 1878. The “station” at that time was known as the Bunyip Bank, and engine drivers were known to have left their train to find suitable horses to ride to the new Bunyip Hotel for refreshments. (excerpt from Call of the Bunyip by Denise Nest page 74)”

The society is looking for any memories and  memorabilia pertaining to the history of the Bunyip Railway station and outlying areas, if you can help us please contact us on bhs@dcsi.net.au.
